PIEMONTE ITALY

Piemonte Italy > Cuneo > Prunetto

Prunetto, situated in the Upper Langhe, itself stands a little lower than its ancient medieval part, the remains of which are one of the most relevant historical and architectural landmarks of the Langhe with Scarampi castle still remaining intact. The castle itself is an imposing building that dominates the landscape and all the nearby houses. It is here one can see an ancient stone door that once marked the entrance to the town.

Close to the castle is the sanctuary of the Madonna del Carmine, this was once the parish church and previously dedicated to Saint Lawrence, thought to be one of the largest churches around and decorated with frescoes all painted at different times. A new church was built in more recent times and the old one restored including the frescoes following the floods of 1994.

The village is charming and reflects traditional Italian living and includes shops restaurants and bars.

Prunetto is 720 metres above sea level and has a population of 498.
